Worthy Causes
Most of the quilts on this page were pieced by various groups, mostly from
donated fabric, and quilted by Realizations for the cost of thread and
batting only. The completed quilts are then donated to one of
several agencies, mostly for patients of Hospice or the Cancer
Center. Some are raffle quilts made as fund-raisers for non-profit
organizations.
Most of the quilts are from the Comforters, a group of Bitterroot Valley
quilters in Montana that I was invited to join in the Fall of 2002.
The Comforters have been making quilts for Marcus Daly Hospital for
more than six years.
This page also includes art quilts donated to various charity auctions in western Montana, benefitting the Daly Mansion, Teller Wildlife Refuge, and Safe Harbor.
The title photo is of the finishing stages of machine quilting on the
"Daly Mansion" quilt, a group project of the Bent Needlers, a
mini-group of the Bitterroot Quilters Guild specializing in applique
work.

This small lap quilt was made by a
relative of a patient at the Montana Cancer Center, to be given to
another patient, as part of an ongoing program to encourage patients
to make quilt blocks for the benefit of other patients. Usually, the
blocks are assembled into a quilt top by the Radiology staff, but this
quilt top was entirely pieced by the same person. Quilted August
27, 2002. Backing and batting materials were donated by Cancer
Center employees. Our quilting services were also donated to the
Montana Cancer Center. |

A queen-sized stack 'n whack quilt made
for a non-profit organization raffle. The quilting and binding
services were donated for this quilt. Quilted with feathers in the
border, stippling in the background, and feathers through the
pinwheels. Quilted August 7, 2002. |
