Custom Machine Quilting
Quilting Services
We provide quality hand-guided machine quilting, using a
state-of-the-art longarm quilting machine, shown above. The Gammill Optimum Plus features
automatic stitch regulation for perfect quilting stitch length,
30-inch reach, and a 14-foot table length. We specialize in custom
quilting designed to enhance your pieced work. We do very few quilts
with edge-to-edge or over-all patterns, unless specifically requested by the client.
Scheduling
Each quilt is assigned a delivery date when the order is written. We are
currently not taking new orders.
Quilts must be received at least two weeks prior to the scheduled
quilting date to ensure on-time delivery.
Cost Basis
NOTE: Please refer to the online cost
estimator form for fee information. New pricing is effective for
quilts received after October 1, 2008, and reflects the highly custom
quilting styles demanded by most of our clients, which takes extra
care and time in planning and execution.
- Quilting fees are $45.00 minimum or
- $0.03 per square inch for edge-to-edge all-over and pantograph
patterns. Edge-to-edge means no separate border treatment. This
treatment is generally limited to baby quilts and everyday quilts for
children.
- $0.035 per square inch, for custom and classic patterns, including
echoing, stippling, feathers, etc.
- Additional costs for specialty quilting such as trapunto
techniques, dense grid patterns, and specialty threads will be
negotiated during the design consultation, from $0.35 up to $0.05 per
square inch, averaging $0.04 for heirloom and whole-cloth quilts which
have extensive intricate patterns, grids, trapunto, pebbling, and very tight
stippling over the entire quilt. Heirloom quilting takes at least
twice as long to complete as a standard custom quilt. For an example
of heirloom quality quilting, please see the Daly Mansion Quilt on our Quilts for Worthy Causes page.
- The per square inch basic rate includes:
- Batting and 100% cotton thread.
- A design consultation to determine the quilting treatment
- Trimming your quilt to size, ready for binding
- Basting your quilt for hand quilting is $45.00 minimum or
$0.01 to $0.0125 per square inch, depending on batting choice (refer
to the online cost
estimator form).
- The base prices include Hobbs Heirloom cotton/polyester blend, our
most popular batting: upgrades will range from $1 for a small quilt to $25
for a queen or king-sized quilt, depending on exact quilt size and
batting choice. If you supply your own batting, a discount
will be applied, subject to the minimum quilting fee.
- Binding services are also available for $0.22 per lineal inch,
with a $35 minimum fee: you supply the binding fabric (which is
usually the same as the backing fabric). Binding requires
straight-grain fabric strips 2-1/2 inches wide, with the length
totaling the perimeter of your quilt plus seam allowance of 1/2-inch
per strip.
- If you cannot pick up your quilt in person, quilts will be shipped
UPS or Priority Mail. A shipping and handling charge of $15 - $40 will
be added, including insurance, depending on the size of the quilt, and
whether it is prepaid or COD. Additional charges for overnight or 2nd
day delivery may apply. You may also send your quilt by mail to
be quilted, in which case the design consultation will be done by telephone.
