Our Own Quilts
The quilts pictured below were made for our own use or as gifts for
family members.
Of course, family quilts get everyone involved: even the webmaster
gets his fingers pried off the keyboard from time to time and put to
work hand-stitching binding.

| This full/twin quilt is an
adaptation of "Mocha Java," a Joy Hoffman design featured in the
April 2003 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. This
version features many more different fabrics than the original,
totalling 27 in all, including the backing. This was pieced by
Larye, his first quilt, and machine quilted by Judy. It goes to our
youngest son.

Detail of the blocks in
"Mocha Java." There are seven different block backgrounds, five
different star fabrics, three different star centers, five dark
fabrics in the four-patch squares, and two different sets of
nine-patch squares.

This king-sized quilt, a wedding
present for one of our daughters, is an adaptation of the Spiral Lone
Star wall hanging below. We added the compass point corners from the orginal square pattern to all eight faces of the spiral, then added borders and three-quarter circles to expand the design from the original 48-inch central star to a 120-inch king size. The colors match her bedroom decor. April 29, 2003. Three-panel composite photo, some parallax issues toward the bottom, but shows the overall design with borders.

The center of the red Spiral
Lone Star above. The two black borders make the transition from
octagonal star to square, and the three-quarter circles anchor the
corners.
