"Hopi Basket," a full-sized
quilt made for my sister's 50th wedding anniversary. Southwestern
theme figures are quilted into the background. The overall theme is
a loose stipple, with cross-hatching in the border contrast pieces
and quarter-inching in the basket wedges. This is a great pattern we
picked up on a trip to Arizona. It was fun and easy to make. The
basket was pieced separately and appliqued to the background, which
was then cut away under the basket to remove bulk. This quilt
won the First Place Viewer's Choice award in the machine-pieced,
machine-quilted category at the 2003 Bitterroot Quilt Guild's
biennial quilt show, 19-20 July, 2003.
