Our Own Quilts

The quilts pictured below were made for our own use or as gifts for family members.

Of course, family quilts get everyone involved: even the webmaster gets his fingers pried off the keyboard from time to time and put to work hand-stitching binding.

The pillow shams for the blended nine-patch variation shown above are made more in keeping with the original wall hanging that inspired the king-sized quilt: fussy-cutting the large-print fabric to produce the blended effect.

"Liberty Lily," a wall-hanging from the book Women of Grace and Charm. This was our July 2004 web home page quilt.

"Akebia Flowers," a small wall hanging from Kumiko Sudo's book Fabled Flowers, made in 2000 for a quilt shop challenge, in which it took first place. The appliqued dimensional folded flowers were made from the challenge fabric. Quilted with sashiko-inspired designs in the background and veins machine-stitched over the appliqued leaves.
